INTRODUCTION

Among my favorite toys growing up in the sixties were Corgi Toys.  I owned a couple of dozen, but, like most kids, I played with them until the paint was worn to the bare metal and eventually discarded them.  The box was the first thing to go!  Like most of the great toys from that era, these beautifully crafted models have become highly sought after collectibles.

A BRIEF HISTORY

First introduced at the 1956 British Industries Fair, Corgi Toys quickly became recognized around the world for their high quality and attention to detail.  They were the first die-cast scale models to be fitted with windows and introduced other features over the years such as jeweled headlights, spring suspension, operating windshield wipers and Trans-o-lite front and rear lights.  Most of the cars in the 1966 guide shown above retailed for just a couple of dollars each.  Deluxe models, like the popular Batmobile, sold for $4.00.  Today, this car in top-notch condition and with the original box can sell for hundreds of dollars.

ABOUT THIS SITE

This site was inspired by two things - my fond memories of Corgi Toys and the absence of a quality website devoted to showcasing them.  But none of it would have possible without the superb images provided by George's Good Stuff.  Even if you never buy a thing on eBay, it is a terrific source for taking a trip down memory lane and that's where I stumbled upon George's Corgi auctions and began saving his photos, knowing that one day I would approach him with my idea for a Corgi reference site and ask for his permission to use them.

COLLECTING CORGI

The internet has made the task of tracking down your favorite Corgi fairly easy.  You can collect them from the comfort of your own home, 24 hours a day.  What you pay will depend on the model and it's condition.  You shouldn't have to spend more than $15 for a play worn, unboxed Rambler Marlin.  But you'll need much deeper pockets for a well preserved Black Beauty or the fabulous Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  The good news is they are still out there - at least for now.
